The Island Health Department of Midwifery is looking for two fulltime Midwives on Salt Spring Island.<\/p>\n

These roles have two components \u2013 (1) providing clinical midwifery care as well as (2) non-clinical work to improve team based maternity service for families of Salt Spring Island. This includes integration with teams and services at Lady Minto Hospital, supporting professional and skill development for perinatal Nursing, as well as improving care pathways for families who\u2019s care requires leaving SSI to access higher level of care.<\/p>\n

The midwife will provide comprehensive prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care on Salt Spring Island at their clinic, at Lady Minto Hospital and in clients homes.<\/p>\n

These unique midwifery opportunities, providing clinical care, leadership activities and educational support to other health care providers, will be especially appealing to midwives seeking diversity in their work.<\/p>\n

Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n

Subject to eligibility, registered midwives may be able to access the Midwives Association of British Columbia (MABC) Rural Midwifery Programs.<\/p>\n

Shift\/Hours of Work<\/strong><\/p>\n

A minimum of 1680 to 1850 hours per annum consisting of both clinical services and non-clinical.<\/p>\n

On call availability and after hours coverage is required. \u00a0The midwives will share call coverage, with at least one midwife on call at any time to provide continuous call coverage as a team.<\/p>\n

With a population of approximately 12,000 residents, Salt Spring Island is nestled against the east shore of Vancouver Island. The island is located almost equidistant between Victoria and Nanaimo with both excellent ferry service to Crofton, Swartz Bay, other Gulf Islands and floatplane connectivity to Vancouver.<\/p>\n

With breathtaking scenery, a temperate climate and a relaxed lifestyle Salt Spring Island is home to a large artistic community and offers opportunities for multiple activities. \u00a0Enjoy local plays, musical performances, festivals and the enviable farmers markets. \u00a0Outstanding recreational options abound from exploring pristine beaches and hiking uphill trails to golfing and a multitude of water sports including sailing, swimming and kayaking.<\/p>\n

The island provides K-12 education options, a performing arts centre, an indoor pool, galleries, shopping and a small community movie theatre.<\/p>\n
