The First Nations Health Authority has 2 contract positions available for\u00a0 midwives in North Vancouver Island, serving Midwifery clinics in Port Hardy and\/or Port McNeill, Kwakwaka\u2019wakw Outreach Program, and in community.\u00a0 These contract positions also include funded clinic space, MOA and some funding for local work-related travel.<\/p>\n
The components of this role include provision of clinical midwifery care and non-clinical work including collaborating with Kwakwaka\u2019wakw Maternal Child and Family Health Program as well as offering education to acute care nurses, other health care providers and doulas.\u00a0 These roles also involve community-based education to support families and outreach to local First Nations communities.<\/p>\n
The midwife will provide comprehensive prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care, in the Mt. Waddington area.\u00a0 The midwife will also ensure that these clinical services are provided in a culturally safe and appropriate way to the local First Nations communities in the north island region.\u00a0 The midwife will share call coverage, with at least one midwife on call at any given time.<\/p>\n
The successful midwife will collaborate with other practitioners to meet the care needs of mother and baby, whether the birth is planned to take place locally on the north island or requires a higher level of care at another site on Vancouver Island.\u00a0 The midwife will work collaboratively with other midwive(s) to serve this area.<\/p>\n
This unique midwifery opportunity, providing clinical care, leadership activities and educational support to other health care providers, will be especially appealing to midwives seeking diversity in their work, and who have keen interest in serving a predominantly indigenous population. This contract position includes funded office space, MOA and some funding for local work-related travel.<\/p>\n
There is a requirement that the successful Midwife will register for and complete the San\u2019yas Indigenous Cultural Safety training available through PHSA within 6 months.<\/p>\n
