The IC conducts initial file reviews and preliminary investigations following receipt of complaints for the purpose of seeking clarification, confirming intentions, and assessing sufficiency of new complaints. The IC applies the Health Professions Act, BCCNM bylaws and BCCNM policies to ensure incoming complaints are responded to appropriately.<\/p>\n<p>The Intake Coordinator works closely with the and Intake Advisors, Director, Inquiry, Discipline &amp; Monitoring (IDM) and the IDM team on matters related to the registrant complaints process. Externally, the IC liaises with the public, registrants, healthcare agencies and employers and legal counsel.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u200bKey responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Under the direction of the Director, Inquiry &amp; Discipline, and with oversight from the Intake Advisor\u00a0 initiates, implements and manages the steps necessary for the appropriate streaming of complaints.<\/li>\n<li>Advises the public and registrants about the complaints and investigation process in accordance with BCCNM policies.<\/li>\n<li>Receives and responds to complaints or concerns about professional conduct or self-reports from nurses, and conducts preliminary investigations into complaints<\/li>\n<li>Under direction from Director, IDM conducts initial complaint consultations and preliminary investigations following the receipt of complaints for the purpose of clarifying the complaint, to establish sufficiency and triaging appropriately.<\/li>\n<li>In collaboration with the monitoring team, ensures that registrants meet the terms of consent agreements, limits or conditions; and in accordance with the Inquiry Committee\u2019s direction, and under the direction of the Director, IDM, conducts investigation into breaches of consent agreement.<\/li>\n<li>Under direction from the Director, IDM, and oversight from the Intake Advisor, prepares reports for the Inquiry Committee for review and reports for the Registrar\/CEO for complaint dismissal. Prepares and sends information to legal counsel in response to requests for review by the Health Profession Review Board.<\/li>\n<li>Contributes to the development of policy and procedures to ensure the consistent and appropriate intake of complaints;<\/li>\n<li>Participates in intake team meetings to ensure consistency in assessment and management of complaints; escalates issues to the Intake Advisor\u00a0 or Director, Inquiry &amp; Discipline as required.<\/li>\n<li>Participates in Inquiry Committee meetings to present intake cases for consideration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Your education &amp; skills\u00a0\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u200bBachelor\u2019s degree in a relevant field, plus specialized nursing or midwifery education, health administration, paralegal training, or conflict analysis and management education, or a bachelor\u2019s degree in a related field with a demonstrated focus on critical thinking, writing, organization skills, dealing with conflict, and managing challenging people dynamics.<\/li>\n<li>Three to five years of experience in a variety of positions with experience in a relevant setting such as an administrative tribunal or a regulatory body; nursing designation preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to accurately interpret legislation, bylaws and policy.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills required to ensure clear communication with registrants, healthcare agencies and employers, and the public.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict management skills are essential to the position. The ability to work with individuals to minimize confrontation and to focus on problem solving in order to achieve mutually satisfactory resolution to issues is required.<\/li>\n<li>Working level knowledge and experience using current versions of MS Office, MS CRM Dynamics, MS SharePoint, web browsers and search engines.<\/li>\n<li>If a midwife, must hold practicing or non-practicing registration in good standing with BCCNM.
