The course will focus on developing and strengthening the skills required to work competently and compassionately across social and identity differences among and between midwives, midwifery clients and other health care providers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Qualifications\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Applicants will hold a graduate degree (masters or PhD) in sociology or a related social science field.<br \/>The candidate should have experience in equity or social justice teaching and\/or research.<br \/>Teaching experience with undergraduate students is an asset.<br \/>Familiarity with midwifery in Ontario is an asset.<br \/>Priority will be given to applicants with lived experience as a racialized person navigating inequities.<br \/>Types, Duration and Form of Appointments\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is a part-time appointment for one semester. This position will be the second (Winter) semester of a 2-semester course. Each week there is one 1.5-hour lecture and two 1.5 hour tutorials. These are normally all on the same day. Compensation is for 3 semester hours weekly. This position accrues 1\/3 unit of seniority credit per semester. Relevant information includes:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>detailed list of teaching experiences in the MEP including courses taught and guest lectures\/workshops\u00a0<br \/>evidence of teaching skills (faculty course surveys, currency reports, student evaluations, teaching evaluations)<br \/>three references (include names and contact information)<br \/>current email address<\/p>\n<p>(d) A Senior Contract Lecturer applicant as defined in Appendix VI (Establishing and Maintaining Priority of Consideration Status and Seniority Credits for Senior Contract Lecturers) and Contract Lecturers in the Contract\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lecturer Track without Priority of Consideration (as defined in Article 15) who have nine (9) seniority (experience) points or more, may indicate in their application which of the Continuing Education courses and sections posted for information, as per Article 13. 3. (d) (Appointment Procedure &#8211; Posting), he or she would prefer should the volume of teaching applied for not be available from the teaching functions available for discharge. Contract Lecturers in the Contract Lecturer Track without Priority of Consideration (as defined in Article 15) who have nine (9) seniority (experience) points or more shall be subject to Article 14. 7. (c) above when applying for Continuing Education courses and sections posted for information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(e) Applicants should provide the address or addresses to which the letter of appointment should be sent and a statement of any periods during which the applicant cannot be contacted.<\/p>\n<p>(f)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Successful applicants shall be required as a condition of employment to validate their academic qualifications through the provision of original transcript(s) no later than six (6) weeks from the date of the original appointment. This requirement applies only in respect of the original and\/or (first) appointment as a Contract Lecturer with the University.\u00a0 In the event of any subsequent appointment(s), this requirement shall be waived. In the event that a Contract Lecturer attains an enhanced academic credential the requirement and provisions of clause (f) above shall apply.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Selection Criteria:<\/p>\n<p>In order to be considered for an appointment, the candidate must possess the qualifications outlined in the posting. The CLAC shall only consider and evaluate applicants who meet these qualifications based on using the following criteria (see attached rating scale and weights for each selection criteria).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0(a) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Education<\/p>\n<p>The level of relevant academic degrees including credentials and professional designations, as applicable; and\/or degrees typically held by a teacher in that discipline\/profession in the university sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0((b) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Experience<\/p>\n<p>The extent and variety of relevant work and\/or community experience in the professional field or discipline; the extent of University teaching experience; previous experience teaching the same or an equivalent course at TMU, or an equivalent course at another University. Experience teaching Laurentian MEP students would be an asset.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0((c) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Currency<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrated evidence of having maintained up-to-date knowledge (including practice skills, where appropriate) in their specific field\/discipline and\/or demonstrated evidence of having maintained academic currency in the specific field\/discipline relevant to the course(s) for which the candidate has applied which may include publication in a peer-reviewed journal, presentation or attendance at relevant academic conferences. Attendance\/participation in teaching-related conferences (e.g. TMU Faculty Conference), workshops, seminars, etc. Preference will be given to current CMO active registrants in good standing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0(d) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Teaching Skills<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrated ability to teach effectively; evidence of skills applicable to teaching in a university environment (including post-secondary teaching experience); university teaching experience.\u00a0Ability to teach effectively which may include such tools as Contract Lecturer Assessment forms and Faculty Course Survey results or equivalent documentation; evidence of skills applicable to teaching in a university environment (including post-secondary teaching experience). including using course management system tools to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students in the course.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0(e) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Interactive Skills<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with colleagues and students; ability to work effectively in groups; ability to resolve conflicts constructively; ability to carry out the duties and obligations of a Contract Lecturer in a respectful manner; ability to empathize with others and consider varied perspectives; commitment to on-going self-assessment. However, due to the fluid and dynamic nature of the COVID-19 virus, should public health indicators change, the University reserves the right to reinstate the Vaccination Policy, as deemed necessary. Should this policy be reintroduced, all successful candidates will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and provide such proof via the TMUSafe App. CUPE contracts will be updated to reflect this change.<\/p>\n<p>Course delivery can be online, in-person or hybrid at the sole discretion of the hiring unit. Candidates hired for in-person courses will be required to carry out their teaching on campus. Candidates teaching remotely are required to have access to the appropriate technology, i.e. computer with camera and microphone and high-speed internet.<\/p>\n<p>While applicants may submit Faculty\/Course Survey results from Winter 2020 through to Winter 2023, these results will not be used as evidence of teaching effectiveness by the Contract Lecturer Appointment Committee due to the impact of COVID-19 on these semesters. A negative inference will not be drawn if FCS results are not submitted for these semesters. Alternate evidence of teaching effectiveness may be provided by the candidate for consideration by the CLAC.<\/p>\n<p>CUPE UNIT 1 courses posted may be subject to change due to changes in enrollment, scheduling or budget approval.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants may apply for one or more sections.
