The Cook Street Community Midwives in Victoria, BC are seeking 1-2 locum midwives for flexible dates starting in May 2024 onwards. We are open to considering a short-term (spring\/summer 2024 only) and\/or a long-term (for 1 year or more) locum, depending on mutual needs and fit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cook Street Community Midwives is an established midwifery practice located in a beautiful heritage building in the heart of Victoria, BC. We are supported by two amazing MOAs and use Accuro EMR for charting.\u00a0<\/p>\n
We currently practise in a supported solo model with two teams of two. Each midwife books ~4-5 EDDs per month. We cover each other for regular long weekends plus two months off call per year, with additional ad-hoc coverage for sleep relief and other support as needed. We are flexible in trying something new but have found our model has been very sustainable for work life balance.<\/p>\n
Clients electing a hospital birth do so at Victoria General Hospital (VGH). We enjoy collaborative working relationships with our obstetric colleagues. We have many repeat clients and word of mouth referrals, and typically keep a long wait list.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Although at least one set of locum privileges will be available starting in May\/June 2024, we encourage any prospective applicants to consider submitting an application for regular privileges in Island Health\u2019s upcoming (~November 2023) midwifery recruitment for VGH.<\/p>\n
We anticipate that a long term locum midwife would collect their own, full billings rather than being compensated through locum fees.<\/p>\n
