Squamish Birth Program Registered Midwife \u2013 Full-Time Locum (1 Year)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Start date: April 1, 2026 (flexible for the right candidate)
With possibility of permanent placement<\/p>\n

The Squamish Birth Program is excited to welcome a full-time Registered Midwife to join our midwifery team for a one-year locum, with the possibility of a permanent role thereafter. We are a small, tightly knit, and deeply collaborative maternity care group of midwives and GP’s which is the only maternity care providers serving the Sea to Sky corridor. Our team is passionate about rural maternity, home birth and family centered care.<\/p>\n

How We Work<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a locum, you would be working on a team with two other midwives and working within a larger collaborative care clinic. Our midwifery call schedule is a three-week rotation:<\/p>\n

One week on call (home birth call, pager, clinic, labs, and home visits)
Two weeks off midwifery call
During off-call weeks, midwives may choose to pick up hospital shifts, shared between GPs and midwives, allowing for flexibility of pace, practice exposure and income.<\/p>\n

The midwifery team currently attends an average of 3\u20136 home births and care for 10 + prenatal\/postpartum clients per month.<\/p>\n

On average our collaborative group attends between 30-50 births in the hospital per month<\/p>\n

Our Community & Supports<\/strong><\/p>\n

Squamish is a rural community. We work closely with GP-surgeons, locum OBGYN’s, and family physicians and our amazing L&D nursing team. Our hospital does not have a NICU or in-house pediatricians, so strong clinical skills, teamwork, and comfort in rural practice are essential.<\/p>\n

Midwifery Assets<\/strong><\/p>\n

Experience in rural midwifery, surgical first assist and Induction of Labour within scope are assets, but not required.<\/p>\n
