We encourage submissions from individuals or teams who can bring practical insight, sound judgment, and a grounded understanding of the Alberta context.<\/p>\n<p>1. Overview<br \/>The Alberta Association of Midwives (AAM) is seeking proposals from qualified individuals or teams to develop comprehensive Business and Transition Toolkits to support midwives practicing in Alberta.<\/p>\n<p>These toolkits will be designed primarily for new or transitioning midwives and will provide practical, accessible guidance on establishing and managing a midwifery practice within Alberta\u2019s unique regulatory, financial, and care delivery environment.<\/p>\n<p>2. Project Timeline and Budget<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contract Period: June 1, 2026 \u2013 December 31, 2026<\/li>\n<li>Total Budget: $50,000 CAD (inclusive of all costs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. Project Objectives<br \/>The objective of this project is to create two user-friendly, practical toolkits.\u00a0 The toolkits, while overlapping will be for newly registered midwives or those embarking out on their own, and for midwives transferring into Alberta.\u00a0 The toolkits should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support new and early-career midwives in establishing and managing their practices<\/li>\n<li>Assist midwives transitioning from other provinces or care models<\/li>\n<li>Provide clarity on Alberta\u2019s midwifery model of care, including financial, legal, and operational considerations<\/li>\n<li>Improve consistency, confidence, and sustainability in midwifery practice across the province<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4. Scope of Work<br \/>AAM will provide existing materials, documentation, and resources where available to support this work and avoid duplication of effort. The successful proponent will be responsible for the following:<\/p>\n<p>Phase 1: Needs Assessment and Framework Development<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct a focused needs assessment with midwives and key stakeholders (anticipated 8\u201312 interviews and\/or 1\u20132 small group sessions)<\/li>\n<li>Engage with key partner organizations as appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Identify priority content areas and clearly define what is in and out of scope<\/li>\n<li>Develop a practical and streamlined toolkit structure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Phase 2: Content Development and Review<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop a defined set of core modules (anticipated 6\u20138 modules total)<\/li>\n<li>Ensure content is practical, concise, and action-oriented (checklists, templates, and guidance prioritized over narrative content)<\/li>\n<li>Conduct subject matter review with a limited number of reviewers<\/li>\n<li>Apply an equity-informed and inclusive lens<\/li>\n<li>Integrate feedback through a maximum of two revision cycles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Phase 3: Finalization, Design, and Launch<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finalize all toolkit content<\/li>\n<li>Prepare materials for web-based formats (no complex platform development required)<\/li>\n<li>Support a small pilot (anticipated 5\u20138 users)<\/li>\n<li>Incorporate final feedback (one final revision round)<\/li>\n<li>Assist with launch of the toolkit(s)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5. Key Content Areas<br \/>The toolkit(s) should include, but are not limited to, the following:<\/p>\n<p>A. Starting and Managing a Midwifery Practice<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Practice setup requirements in Alberta<\/li>\n<li>Business structures and considerations<\/li>\n<li>Required documentation and filings<\/li>\n<li>Contracts and agreements<\/li>\n<li>Financial management and billing practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>B. Transitioning to Practice in Alberta<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Overview of Alberta\u2019s midwifery model of care<\/li>\n<li>Differences between employee and independent contractor models<\/li>\n<li>Taxation considerations and implications<\/li>\n<li>Practice-level responsibilities and expectations<\/li>\n<li>Integration into existing practice groups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>C. Orientation to the Midwifery Landscape in Alberta<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Overview of key organizations and their roles, including:\n<ul>\n<li>Alberta Association of Midwives (AAM)<\/li>\n<li>College of Midwives of Alberta (CMA)<\/li>\n<li>Primary Midwifery Administrative Office\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Mount Royal University (MRU)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>How AAM operates, including fee structures and member expectations<\/li>\n<li>Navigating relationships between regulatory, educational, and advocacy bodies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>D. Practical Tools and Resources<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Checklists, templates, and sample documents<\/li>\n<li>Decision-making guides<\/li>\n<li>Frequently asked questions<\/li>\n<li>Resource lists and contacts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>6. Deliverables<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Needs assessment summary report (concise; maximum 10 pages)<\/li>\n<li>Toolkit framework and module outline<\/li>\n<li>Draft toolkit modules (6\u20138 modules)<\/li>\n<li>Finalized toolkit content for the two toolkits<\/li>\n<li>Web-ready materials (formatted documents; no custom development required)<\/li>\n<li>Pilot testing summary (brief) and final revisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>7. Proponent Qualifications<br \/>Proposals should demonstrate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience in midwifery practice (preferred)<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of Alberta\u2019s healthcare and midwifery systems<\/li>\n<li>Experience in resource or curriculum development<\/li>\n<li>Strong writing and stakeholder engagement skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and meet deadlines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Collaborative proposals from teams are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>8.
