This midwifery practice was founded within the community due to a grassroots push to return birthing services to Fort Smith. The midwifery program is highly valued by the community of Fort Smith and seeking a new member of their team.
Midwives in Fort Smith are well integrated into the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority and provide prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care to nearly all pregnant individuals in the community. Midwives have excellent relationships with consultants in their referral community of Yellowknife and work collaboratively with their colleagues in communities across the territory.
