Site Nanaimo Registered Midwives
Nanaimo Registered Midwives is looking for a one-year locum starting around July 1, 2025 (negotiable), with the possibility for longer term employment and permanent privileges, to replace one midwife who is easing her way into retirement :). We are a busy two-person practice taking 8-9 clients per month for full prenatal, birth and postpartum care. We work a regular two-week rotation with 2 consecutive days off every week – either Thurs/Fri or Sat/Sun which means you have every 2nd weekend off. We have also always enjoyed a minimum of 1 month off each year.
This translates into 1 clinic day a week / 1- 48 hrs call shift a week and 1 – 24 hr call shift with an additional day off and the other week 2 – 24 hrs call shifts plus the clinic day and the 1-48 hrs call shift.
Billings with our new MMA are expected to be around $250k gross per midwife with our current caseload.
Locums make 80% of billings but pay no overhead.

We are able to support a new registrant or a new-to-BC midwife.
The Nanaimo General Hospital where we hold privileges is a lovely hospital with all in one birthing and postpartum rooms and we enjoy excellent collaborative relationships with our Nursing, Obstetrician, Pediatrician and GP colleagues.
Nanaimo is a beautiful seaside community on Vancouver Island, an amazing place for all kinds of outdoor activities, and very little snow!
