Work in one of these amazing communities in the NWT!

Fort Smith, the gateway to Wood Buffalo National Park and Dark Sky Reserve, is located in the traditional territory of the Salt River First Nation, Smith’s Landing First Nation, and NWT Métis Nation.  The garden capital of the NWT, Fort Smith is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast with access to world class rapids, hiking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and awe inspiring northern lights.

On the southern shores of Great Slave Lake, you’ll find the town of Hay River, a bustling community with long, scenic beaches and incredible waterfalls nearby. The Registered Midwife provides primary midwifery services to maternity clients to ensure safe and appropriate care that contributes to healthy pregnancies, safe births, and healthy beginnings for mothers and babies. The position advances a best practice approach to the provision of community based maternity care within an integrated health service delivery model. Travel to community by road and air is a regular part of the hands-on care provided, in addition to virtual care.

Salaries start at 110k, plus a Northern Living Allowance ($3,700 to $7,374, based on community), a Labour Market Supplement upon hire with an additional payment after the first year of employment ($6,000 for Fort Smith and Hay River, and $5,000 for Yellowknife), health and dental benefits, a generous pension plan, and outstanding leave benefits including deferred leave options.  On top of that, we offer relocation assistance, along with professional development opportunities and education support.

  • Fort Smith – Two (2) years of experience in delivering midwifery care as a primary care provider.
  • Hay River – Three (3) years of experience in delivering midwifery care as a primary care provider.
