Jade Team at Pomegranate Community Midwives is looking for 2-4 Registered Midwives for the second Burnaby Team, Quartz Team!

About the Quartz Team:

Quartz Team is currently a team of two midwives who support families living in Burnaby, BC – the ancestral and unceded homelands of hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples. Both of the midwives currently working on Quartz Team have had some amazing opportunities arise and will be leaving by December 2024.

We are hoping to build a new team of 2-4 midwives to meet the needs of our rapidly growing community. We currently have an extensive waitlist of Burnaby families. As a team of two, Quartz team takes 6-7 EDDs per month. As a team of three or four, the caseload could be 9-12 EDDs per month. Initially, building the team may involve merging with Jade Team (the other Burnaby team) as a team of 3-4 while building the caseload of Quartz Team. Start date is flexible as we have no current EDDs for Quartz Team after December, however the waitlist is such, that we expect the new midwives would be able to easily build caseload and begin attending births within a few months of starting.

Quartz Team has privileges at Burnaby General Hospital, where we have good working relationships with consultants and nursing staff. Our clinic is in East Vancouver – just a few blocks from the Burnaby border.

Quartz Team is currently working on establishing relationships with SMILE and Burnaby Family Life and we are looking for midwives who are keen to continue this work.

Pomegranate Community Midwives

The Quartz Team works in close partnership with Pomegranate’s Jade Team, who also care for clients in Burnaby. We support each other through vacation relief and call support.

We are also well cared for by the community of midwives within Pomegranate. We work hard to help each other with pager coverage after long births, urgent home visits, home birth backups, and mentorship/learning. Through the clinic, our clients can also access RMT, pelvic floor physiotherapy, prenatal classes, community drop-ins, and remote counselling services. We have full time MOA support, and we use OSCAR as our EMR.

We are looking for midwives who:

·         Are comfortable providing choice of birthplace and informed choice, and supporting care outside of guidelines when requested, in order to facilitate a harm reduction approach to care.

·         Are open to building relationships with both hospital staff and community-based organizations to help grow midwifery in Burnaby

Priority to Midwives who:

·         Speak multiples languages

·         Have knowledge of OSCAR EMR and Meditech

·         Are interested in presenting at Fraser Health OBs Grand Rounds

·         Are interested in being actively involved in hospital committees and working group
