THE POSITION

We are seeking a Registered Midwife or two to join Team 2! This is a new team that has been created to offer additional options to birthing people in our city who are looking to be cared for by a smaller group of midwives, and for midwives to be able to offer relationship based midwifery care in a supportive environment. This team will have a full caseload of 6-8 clients/month by September 2024. This team would be supportive of a midwife who is keen to do clinical midwifery work while also pursuing other midwifery work or education. We will also consider a new graduate or bridging midwives of an accredited midwifery program, and have capacity to offer mentorship to the potential candidates. This team prioritizes saving space for people who are choosing home birth or are otherwise seeking care that isn’t being met in another care setting eg. marginalized or racialized clients or those wanting care outside of guidelines.

Our team works in a rotation of call and clinic. There is flexibility in how the schedule is arranged, based on all team members needs, but longer periods of being on call will be required. This allows for protected time off for all team members and so the clinic midwife is not also on call.

The applicant would either already hold hospital privileges at BC Women’s Hospital or alternatively we can provide the signatures required for temporary hospital privileges approved through the CAP (Caseload Assistance Program) at BC Women’s Hospital Department of Midwifery.

*There is flexibility to the start date above. If you are not immediately available in the above time frame or need to start work sooner, we will still consider your application.

OUR CLINIC

Established in 1998, we have a strong presence in our community and relish the diversity of our clientele. We also have a range of allied health professionals that work out of our clinic including Lactation consultants, Massage Therapy, Dietitian, Counselor, Physiotherapist and Acupuncturist.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE-

– Experienced with and commitment to providing home birth, even for clients who elect home birth or other care out of BCCNM regulations.

– Skilled in supporting clients to have physiologic births, on land and water, and advanced training or interest in advanced training in this area. eg. Acupuncture for pain relief in labour, Spinning babies etc.

– Ability and interest to work longer call shifts as we are a small team.

– Invested in developing and maintaining respectful relationships with interprofessional colleagues.

– Committed to providing evidenced-based, safe and reassuring midwifery care.
