Our Team & Clinic

We are a supportive group composed of two teams seeking an additional member to complete our team of two. We are full-scope midwives, offering homebirth, hospital birth, and surgical assistance to our obstetricians.

Our practice values collaboration and support between teams. We are fortunate to have the assistance of two rural locum midwives which assist in enabling protected time off. We currently appreciate coverage under the Rural Midwifery Locum Program to assist with locum costs.

As a team, we value a standard of fair compensation and transparency between midwives in our clinic. Midwives receive full overhead payment and benefit from moderate clinic fees and a wonderful team of two administrative staff.

Job description

We welcome you to join our team of two, With Team Wave, you will share a caseload with an experienced midwife. As a team, you will be able to share ideas to establish a practice plan. Ideally, time and compensation between team members will be evenly split, with Team Wave holding space for  8-10 clients per month. Schedules will separate call days from clinic days. Call days include pager coverage and home/hospital assessments. 2-3 days/week of clinic will be split between the midwives.

While having your caesarean assist certificate is an asset, it is not mandatory as our clinic and obstetrician colleagues are willing to support you in gaining this certification at your own pace.

Hospital

The North Island Campbell River and District Hospital was built in September 2017. The maternity unit has ocean views from most rooms as well as two large birth suites with the option for waterbirth. CRH is a level 1 hospital, with 24-hour off-site specialist coverage from paediatricians, obstetricians, and anesthesiologists. The interprofessional relationships here are strong and there is well-established mutual respect between midwives and other providers. Midwives are seen as foundational to maternity care access and provision in this community.

Campbell River

As a growing city nestled by the ocean, Campbell River is surrounded by endless outdoor activities, and has been drawing people of all life stages for the balance between work, life, and entertainment. When the midwives are not at the hospital, you may find them hiking, enjoying the ocean and nearby lakes, or camping with loved ones. To name a few scenic sites, you may see yourself walking the path to Elk falls to check out the suspension bridge and waterfalls. A short drive from there, you can go paddleboarding at McIvor Lake, a local favourite for the sandy beaches with pet-friendly areas for the whole family to enjoy. Adventuring is even accessible when you are on call. Beaver Lodge lands is a favourite shaded forest path just minutes away from the hospital. For a sunnier stroll, the sea walk, which has been newly expanded, hugs the shoreline where you can spot whales, watch cruise ships, and stop for coffee at Foggdukkers.

It is easy to enjoy a staycation when you are off call with Mount Washington just 30 minutes away. The mountain has affordable season’s passes for skiing and snowboarding in the winter or downhill biking in the summer.

If you are interested in growing your skills, feeling accepted within the hospital system, and maintaining continuity of care consider joining us on the island! We look forward to hearing from you!
