We are seeking Registered Midwives to join our team for full-time or part-time work!
Who We Are:
We are a team of Registered Midwives working with clients from Victoria, BC’s Westshore (Langford, Highlands, Colwood). Many of us have been working within the Victoria Midwifery community for >10 years. Currently, we have one larger 4-person team and one supported solo midwife at our practice. We are, however, open to shifting and changing our team structure to support incoming midwives and their desired way of practicing/doing on-call work. Our practice and our community can support 1-4 new midwives and could potentially grow to two 3-person supported teams.
We support interdisciplinary students within our practice and regularly support midwifery learners. We all hold privileges at Victoria General Hospital. We operate in a cost-sharing model – we all earn equal billings, we all pay equal portions of the overhead, and we all contribute to the work of keeping the clinic running smoothly. This lends to cooperation and a feeling of inclusion for all midwives at the practice. We value and believe in supporting one another. We believe this is critical in sustaining midwifery life balance. We have a lot of fun together and try to regularly plan team events, meals, and activities. We especially love admiring photos of each others’ pets after busy or difficult weeks.
About Our Clinic:
We serve a diverse population of pregnant people. Langford and the Westshore community is a rapidly growing community of young and diverse families and some of the most affordable housing left in the South Island! We regularly support young/teen parents, IBPOC folks, non-native English speakers, and 2SLGBTQIA+ families. Our office is located within a clinic space that is shared with acupuncturists and pelvic floor physiotherapists whom we routinely refer to. Overhead costs are shared proportionate to how much you work (full or part time) and affordable. We enjoy support from an excellent MOA. Our space includes laundry, parking, a small kitchenette, and everything you need to keep your clinic day running smoothly.
Our clinic is located in downtown Langford; steps away from several restaurants, coffee shops, a public library, a grocery store, and a gourmet ice cream store. It is accessible (no stairs) and is on a major bus routes.
Who You Are:
A Registered Midwife licensed to work in British Columbia with hospital privileges or New Registrant privileges at Victoria General Hospital. We are happy to mentor a New Registrant and have years of experience doing so. You will be very well supported by an experienced midwife team, and we will provide orientation and support if you are new to Victoria General Hospital. We are hoping to hire either a full time or a part time RM, ideally someone wanting to stay with us long term if it’s a good fit. Start date is flexible, but could be as early as mid-April.
Victoria Midwifery is a growing Department of 45+ midwives, we have Department meetings every other month, and we have an active Signal chat group for home birth back ups and call support. Victoria also has an In House Resource Midwife position to provide in-hospital support for midwives. Victoria has approximately a 10-15% home birth rate, and approximately 10% of our clients plan home births.
We have a fully booked caseload with a long waitlist of local pregnant people excited to secure midwifery care. We can easily support 6 full-time midwives on the Westshore!
