Hiring a Midwife to Start in Summer 2023!

Willow Midwives in Penticton, BC is seeking a Registered Midwife to join our practice in the summer of 2023 with a flexible start date. New registrants are welcome to apply. We are a small practice of 3 midwives looking for a 4th midwife to join us in working ¾ time on a team of 2. We are very open to creative ideas around work/life balance and scheduling. We are offering a 1 year contract leading to a permanent position if it’s a good fit for everyone.

We are located in the sunny Okanagan in the heart of Penticton, nestled between two lakes. Penticton enjoys hot summers, dry winters and lots of sunshine. With a population of 30 000, Penticton is small enough to enjoy the perks of rural living, yet big enough to provide everything you need within a 10 minute drive. Penticton is known for its beaches, wine and orchards, and an array of outdoor activities in any season.

Our clinic is located in Penticton, on the unceded traditional territory of the Syilx Nation, in a heritage home that we share with an acupuncturist, infant feeding clinic and a doula. We are located 2 minutes from the hospital. We use Med Access EMR and have amazing MOA support. We strive to keep our overhead low, so that we can enjoy a slower pace of work and life.

We provide midwifery services to the communities of the South Okanagan, up to 1-2 hours outside Penticton. The rate of planned out-of-hospital birth is over 50% for many months, so a midwife who is comfortable with rural homebirth is a must. We attend births in local hotels for clients farther away in our catchment. We have skilled RN second attendants who support us at homebirths.

Hospital privileges are available at Penticton Regional Hospital (a level 1 facility) with backup privileges at Kelowna General Hospital (a level 2 facility) when transfers are necessary. The hospital and its staff are extremely welcoming and supportive of midwifery and we enjoy excellent working relationships. We participate in MoreOB, NRP, and CPR without cost and are currently working towards Baby Friendly Designation.

We prioritize genuine support for one another and value community and communication. We are deeply committed to providing inclusive care and supporting client choice and autonomy, and we hope you are too!
