The Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) is in pre-production of season one of a podcast that delves into the critical issues at the cultural and scientific intersections of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Through a series of interviews, short radio documentary, dialogues and community discussions, THE CAM PODCAST (title TBD) aims to explore and address the challenges and issues that impact the work of midwives and the diverse communities they serve in Canada and the Global South. THE CAM PODCAST uses the Theory of Change as means of connecting voices and ideas, empowering clients and midwives, and reinforcing the importance of informed choice in regards to our health.
The primary goal of this podcast series is to provide an effective and entertaining resource for midwives and other healthcare workers, as well valuable knowledge and insights to improve their practice and health. Simultaneously, it aims to raise awareness and educate the general public about the pressing issues impacting SRHR. The podcast series will also seek to elevate voices from diverse communities midwives serve/ collaborate with. These communities include but are not limited to members of Indigenous communities, refugee and racialized communities, LGBTQI, substance users, houseless.
Personal Essays for the CAM Podcast
Hello everyone! The Canadian Association of Midwives is actively seeking talented contributors to craft and share personal essays for an upcoming podcast series produced by CAM during the Spring of 2024.
This series delves into crucial discussions on Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights, in both Canada and the Global South. Each podcast will conclude with a powerful essay. We are in search of a midwife or client possessing strong writing skills to compose and potentially record a personal essay, reflecting on your/ their unique experiences, perspective, thoughts, or ideas related to one of the following topics and how these aspects intersect with your/ their own journey in SRHR:
Topics:
• Influence and/or Impact of Race/Ethnicity: Explore your experiences with the intersection of race/ethnicity in your professional work or as a client navigating SRHR.
• Abortion or Vaccine Provision Perspectives: Examine diverse perspectives and experiences related to abortion or vaccine provision, from the standpoint of a midwife and that of a client.
• Understanding “Care”: Reflect on your understanding of the notion of “care.” What is important? What are your concerns or ideas?
• Gender Nonconforming Experiences in Parenting and Health System: Explore experiences at the intersections of gender nonconformity in both parenting and the health system, including perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR), midwives and clients.
• Climate Change Impact on Work or Birth Experience: Investigate the impacts of climate change on your professional work or the experience of childbirth.
