Midwife Opportunity ‒ Chilliwack Obstetrics Group

About Our Program & Our Site

We are an established team of midwives and family physicians transitioning to a fully collaborative, hospital-based maternity care model beginning in May/June 2026. We are recruiting two midwives who are excited to contribute to a growing and progressive, team-based model that delivers high-quality intrapartum, prenatal, and postpartum care.

In this model, providers work within a shared call group in a supportive and well-organized clinical environment. Our focus is on creating a sustainable practice that prioritizes balanced workloads, protected time off, and strong collegial relationships, while maintaining a high standard of clinical excellence.

Midwives in our group are actively encouraged and supported to practise to full scope. Our obstetric colleagues are collaborative and respectful of midwifery expertise, enabling midwives to provide comprehensive care and take meaningful leadership in physiologic birth. We also benefit from excellent, experienced nursing support, contributing to safe and rewarding clinical work.

We are passionate about supporting families through the transformative journey of pregnancy and birth.

Our care philosophy emphasizes informed choice, respectful partnership, and evidence-informed promotion of physiologic birth within a strong inter-professional team.

Our current focus is hospital birth, with potential future expansion of services, including home birth and integration of allied health providers, as the program evolves.

Clinic Model and Upcoming Transition

Beginning May/June 2026, prenatal care will move from individual community offices into a shared dedicated space within the hospital.

This clinic space provides:

• 2FTE Registered Nurses in Pregnancy care (RNiP) who are trained and experienced in prenatal and postpartum care

• The goal is for prenatal clinic days to align with your call days. If you are called to assess or attend a birth during clinic hours, the RNiP team will continue your clinic flow until you return. This allows for true work life balance and minimizes disruption to patient care.

• Free prenatal education classes for all clients will be offered in house.

What We Offer

• Flexible scheduling: ideally 1 clinic day per week corresponding with a call day the same day and 6-8 weekends per year (Friday and Saturday – currently Sunday’s are covered by another group)

• Call shifts are currently 24 hour shifts (with the exceptions of weekends that are 48 hours) and we are considering a move to 12 hour shifts in the future.

• Dedicated on-call sleep room located on the maternity unit.

• British Columbia offers a competitive midwifery fee schedule and provides extended medical dental and health benefits plus annual RRSP contributions through the Midwives Association of BC.

• Mentorship for newer to practice or new to province midwives.

• For those who have a love of teaching, we preceptor family medicine residents, medical students and midwifery students which is compensated per UBC fee guidelines.

• Fees are in a hybrid model of pooled prenatal fees, individual fee for service for all on-call work and MOCAP. Full time providers can anticipate a monthly income of $16,000 to $20,000 or more depending on number of shifts and how busy their on-call days are. This is comprised of:• Generous per diem fees for clinic days

• Billings during call shifts that follow the British Columbia midwifery fee schedule. (https://

preamble.pdf)

• In addition to billings, a Medical On Call Availability Program fee of $678 is paid per 24 hour call shift.

• The current MOCAP contract is funded until March 31 2026 with plans to renew on a 2 year term.
