This event highlights the central role of Indigenous midwifery in ensuring abortion access for FNIM communities, recognizing this care as a longstanding part of midwifery knowledge and skills. We will explore the intersections of research, policy, and clinical practice, featuring an Indigenous birth worker/doula and a practicing Indigenous midwife presenting innovative, community-led models of care. Together, we will discuss how to restore and protect culturally safe, rights-based abortion services within FNIM territories. This gathering affirms the sovereignty of Indigenous communities to define reproductive health care that is rooted in culture, responsive to needs, and future focused.
This session is the first of a series of community of practice events on abortion care which will be starting in the fall of 2025 and running until the spring of 2027.
Although these sessions are primarily for CAM/NCIM members, people can be added on an individual basis. If you wish to participate and are not a CAM/NCIM member, please send a message to vperrault@canadianmidwives.org
