This session will present the current landscape of abortion care for uninsured clients in Canada, highlighting the crucial role midwives play in expanding access through a human rights framework. We will discuss why individuals become uninsured, what midwives are doing to respond, and how systemic inequities shape care options. An imaginary case study will illustrate the diverse paths and contexts through which uninsured clients seek abortion care. The session aims to generate discussion among Canadian midwives about strategies to strengthen equitable, inclusive, and rights-based reproductive healthcare.
This session is the third of a series of community of practice events on abortion care which started in the fall of 2025 and will be running until the spring of 2027. https://canadianmidwives.org/abortion-care-community-of-practice-lunch-learn-series/
