Dr. Jesse Papenburg will provide an evidence-informed overview of vaccinations in pregnancy, including the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases, how well vaccines work, and what is known about safety and common side-effects. His session will support midwives in strengthening their knowledge base when counselling clients, with a focus on interpreting current evidence and understanding real-world vaccine performance during pregnancy.

Dr. Jesse Papenburg is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at McGill University, a clinician-scientist in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, and Co-Director of the MUHC Vaccine Study Centre. With extensive expertise in vaccine-preventable respiratory infections, diagnostics, and immunization policy, he contributes to Canada’s national guidelines as a member of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI). As a featured speaker in the CAM Vaccination Speaker Series, Dr. Papenburg will provide a comprehensive overview of vaccinations in pregnancy, including the burden of preventable disease, vaccine safety, effectiveness, and potential side-effects.
