Women’s Voices and Midwifery Leadership for Resilient Health (TRUST)

< back

TRUST is a five-year, $8.5 million initiative (2025–2030) funded by Global Affairs Canada. It aims to strengthen health systems and advance Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for women and girls, particularly those in marginalized and underserved communities, in South Sudan (Bor, Torit) and Malawi (Mwanza, Ntcheu, Mzimba South)

Building on CAM’s longstanding global partnerships and twinning models, TRUST aims to empower women and girls—especially marginalized groups—in Malawi and South Sudan to exercise their sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) by strengthening the capacity of midwives and health workers, integrating gender-responsive SRHR services into health systems, and fostering community accountability. Through targeted training, mentorship, advocacy, and support for midwifery associations and women’s health organizations, the project promotes inclusive, rights-based care and builds resilient networks that advance intersectional justice, including Indigenous rights and climate justice, to ensure lasting improvements in SRHR outcomes .

Project Goals

  • Enhance Access and Quality of SRHR Services by equipping midwives to deliver confident, competent, and gender-responsive care rooted in rights-based approaches.
  • Strengthen Midwifery Leadership by empowering associations and WHROs to lead health systems reform, policy advocacy, and professional development.
  • Foster Community Accountability through grassroots outreach, inclusive engagement, and social accountability tools such as community scorecards.
  • Advance Intersectional Justice by integrating Indigenous rights and climate justice into SRHR advocacy through transnational feminist collaboration.
  • Strengthen Cooperation among local, national, and international actors to share knowledge, amplify impact, and sustain SRHR gains.
