Registered Midwife

Reporting to the Midwifery Services Lead, the Registered Midwife is a maternity care professional who provides comprehensive primary care to individuals and their newborns during the childbearing period as per the scope of midwifery care, including the ordering and interpreting of diagnostic tests, prescribing and/or administering medications, and performing minor surgical and invasive procedures. The Registered Midwife provides the full range of care needs to develop, implement and evaluate care throughout the prenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period for individuals and their babies for at least eight weeks after birth. The Registered Midwife provides preconception care and aspects of reproductive care. The Registered Midwife promotes vaginal birth and facilitates choice for clients.  They Support choice of birthplace. They will have admitting and discharge privileges in hospitals and work collaboratively with other health care professionals and ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach. The Registered Midwife works to achieve the organizational goals as set out in the Business and Strategic Plans for Health PEI.
