Website Sages Femmes Renaissance Midwives
Sages Femmes Renaissance Midwifery (SFRM), a thriving midwifery practice with two clinic locations in the beautiful Niagara Peninsula, in Southern Ontario, is looking to fill a locum position starting summer 2024. The position available can accommodate a GR or a NR and will be for the duration of a maternity leave. Please note there may be an opportunity to join the practice beyond this locum time frame depending on other planned leaves in the practice.
SFRM is a shared care practice with 4 teams of 3 midwives each. Our philosophical approach to work includes sharing all aspects of a midwife’s job and does not place any greater monetary value on any one area of the job. The yearly caseload is equivalent to 36 courses of care. Pay for courses of care are distributed evenly among your team so you can expect to receive regular pay billed at your level and equivalent to the rest of the team for the time that you work with us. There is a full caseload already booked so you will receive pay within the first month of work.
We value work/life balance and our full time rotation provides for this by regularly cycling through 11 days of midwifery work followed by 10 days off. During your work time you will provide segments of on-call coverage in 36-72 hour blocks as well as 2-2.5 days in clinic. While on call or in clinic you are responsible for your team’s caseload. You are not on call during your scheduled clinic days.
We have hospital privileges at the St. Catharines site of the Niagara Health System. There are approximately 30 midwives privileged at our hospital and we have a Regional Committee that communicates and informs our Head Midwife about issues that are important to us as we strive to work collaboratively with our maternity care colleagues. We manage epidurals and oxytocin on our own responsibility. Our hospital has recently mandated covid vaccination as a condition of obtaining and maintaining privileges so applicants must be vaccinated.
We have had a consistent home birth rate of 20-30% over the last 25 years. This is also in keeping with the home birth rates of our sister practices that work at our hospital. We are a mixed urban/semi-rural practice serving a diverse population. We use Accuro EMR in the office and Intellispace at our hospital.
Our administrative staff are amazing and have been with us for many years. They provide excellent support at both clinic locations, including but not limited to-booking all lab and diagnostics, facilitating consultations, booking appointments, ordering equipment and supplies, and organizing billings and BORN submissions. We really appreciate them.
The Niagara Region is centred between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. It is a beautiful location to enjoy year-round. We are host to many cottage industries including wineries, breweries, cafes and world-famous restaurants, many recreational water sports, extensive bike trails, hiking the escarpment or provincial parks, and not to mention the Niagara Falls complete with all its famous tourist attractions. Outside of the tourist area, Niagara boasts a smaller community feel, while still being close enough to the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy what it has to offer. It is a wonderful place to call home.
Our ideal candidate would be a dynamic team player who values work/life balance and the shared care model. Experience with full scope would be considered an asset but is not necessary. As a practice, we can offer you an amazing group of midwives to share this work with! We respect and value our teammates and endeavour to support each other as best we can through the ups and downs of this job. The candidate can expect ongoing tailored mentorship as needed based on skill level. We have a great team with varying levels of experience and diverse training. We look forward to hearing from you!
